None of these markets are searchable online. None carry trust signals a first-time buyer can verify. Buyers waste 2–4 hours per shopping trip walking the stalls, negotiating, and risking scams. Sellers can only be found by people who already know them.
MAKKET is the digital layer that fixes this — making Nigeria's physical markets searchable, verifying sellers, and securing payments through escrow.
How does MAKKET work?
- Search — buyer types a product (e.g. "Samsung A54", "ankara fabric", "tomato basket") into MAKKET.
- Discover — MAKKET shows verified sellers across all relevant markets, sorted by price, distance, trust score, and rating.
- Compare — buyer sees real market prices (no markup), seller verification tier, response time, and ratings.
- Order — buyer places the order through MAKKET. Payment is held in escrow.
- Deliver — MAKKET dispatches the order to the buyer's door (or buyer can arrange pickup).
The platform is transaction-first: buyers and sellers do not contact each other before purchase. This protects buyers from negotiation games and protects sellers from time-wasters. Seller contact details are revealed only post-purchase, for legitimate dispute resolution.
How are sellers verified?
MAKKET uses a 3-tier verification system:
- Listed — basic profile with phone verification.
- Verified — physical market visit by MAKKET field agents to confirm stall existence, trader identity, and inventory.
- Premium — verified plus customer rating thresholds, response-rate standards, and escrow-secured transactions.
Each seller has a Trust Score (0–100) computed from: verification tier (30%), customer rating (25%), response rate (20%), listing quality (15%), and account age (10%).
