Trust & Verification on MAKKET

Every transaction protected. Every seller verified.

3-Tier Seller Verification

Every seller on MAKKET goes through a structured verification process. The tier a seller holds tells you exactly how much due diligence has been completed on them.

Tier 1

Listed — Basic profile with phone verification. The seller has registered on MAKKET and confirmed their phone number. This is entry-level trust: the seller is real and reachable, but has not yet been physically verified.

Tier 2

Verified — Physical market visit by MAKKET field agents. Stall existence confirmed, seller identity verified, inventory checked. This is mid-level trust: the seller has a real stall in a real market, and MAKKET has seen it firsthand.

Tier 3

Premium — Verified status plus customer review thresholds met, response-rate standards maintained, and escrow-secured transaction history. This is the highest trust level on MAKKET: the seller has been verified in person and has a proven track record of delivering for buyers.

Trust Score

Every seller on MAKKET carries a Trust Score from 0 to 100. This score is not a single rating — it is a composite of 8 dimensions that together paint a complete picture of seller reliability.

1. Verification tier (weighted)
2. Customer ratings
3. Response rate
4. Order fulfillment rate
5. Listing quality (photos, descriptions)
6. Account age
7. Dispute resolution history
8. Return/refund rate
Trust Scores update continuously. Every fulfilled order, every customer review, and every resolved dispute feeds back into the score in real time. Sellers are incentivised to maintain quality because their score directly affects their visibility to buyers.

Escrow Payment Protection

MAKKET operates a transaction-first model. Buyers do not contact sellers before purchasing. Instead, every order flows through MAKKET's escrow-backed payment system, facilitated by licensed payment partners:

Dispute Resolution

If something goes wrong with an order, MAKKET has a clear, time-bound resolution process:

  1. Buyer raises a dispute within 48 hours of delivery confirmation.
  2. MAKKET reviews evidence from both the buyer and the seller.
  3. Resolution within 72 hours — MAKKET commits to resolving every dispute within three working days.
  4. Refund or replacement issued if the buyer's claim is valid. Sellers who repeatedly lose disputes see their Trust Score drop.
All transactions and disputes on MAKKET are governed under Nigerian law.

Why This Matters

Roughly 80% of commerce in Nigeria happens in physical markets — over 300 of them, from Balogun in Lagos to Wuse in Abuja to Oil Mill in Port Harcourt. These markets move billions of naira every day, yet there is no existing trust infrastructure for these transactions. No ratings. No escrow. No verification. No recourse when things go wrong.

MAKKET builds the missing trust layer. By verifying sellers in person, scoring them across 8 dimensions, and securing every payment through escrow-backed protection via licensed partners, we make it possible for any Nigerian to buy from any market in any city — with confidence that their money is protected and their seller is real.
